This statement explains what the Whemma app does with data. The short version: it has no account, no server and no analytics, so there is nothing for us to receive. Everything below is a consequence of that.

1. What Whemma stores, and where
Whemma stores its data in the app's own private storage on your device. That data is: the objects you created (name, type, and the identity of the beacon paired to it), your settings, and — for each object — the last position at which its beacon was heard, together with a place name looked up for that position.
There is no Whemma account and no Whemma server. We do not receive any of it, and we cannot read it.
2. The permissions Whemma asks for
Each one is used for exactly one thing, and only while it is granted.
Bluetooth. To detect the beacons you place in your vehicles and objects, and to measure how strong their signal is. Whemma does not connect to any other Bluetooth device.
Location. On iOS, detecting an iBeacon is a location function of the operating system, so Whemma needs location access to hear your beacons at all. It is also what lets Whemma remember where an object was last heard. Granting background location additionally lets Whemma notice a beacon while the app is closed, so it can tell you the moment an object comes into sight or warn you when you walk away from one. Positions are recorded on the device only and are never transmitted to us.
Notifications. To send the alerts described in the app: an object coming into sight, and an object being left behind. Notifications are composed and delivered on your device; no push service carries their content.
You may refuse or withdraw any of these permissions in your phone's settings. Whemma will keep working, minus whatever the withdrawn permission enabled.
3. Legal basis
Where Whemma processes personal data — in practice, the positions at which your beacons were heard — it does so on the basis of your consent, given by granting the relevant permission (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). The processing takes place entirely on your own device and is necessary to provide the function you asked for.
4. What we share, and with whom
Nothing, with nobody. Whemma contains no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking software.
Two things do leave the app, both at your request and both to your own phone's operating system: turning a position into a place name uses your device's own geocoding service, and "get directions" hands the coordinates to whichever maps app you have installed. Those services are governed by their own providers' terms.
The app stores are the exception we do not control: Apple and Google process download and, where applicable, purchase data under their own privacy policies. We receive only their aggregated, non-identifying reports.
5. How long it is kept
For as long as you keep it. Unpairing a beacon removes that object and its last-known position; deleting the app removes everything Whemma stored. Because there is no copy anywhere else, that deletion is final.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Since your data exists only on your device, you can exercise all of these yourself, immediately, in the app and in your phone's settings.

7. About the beacons themselves
A Whemma-beacon is a passive Bluetooth transmitter. It broadcasts a fixed identifier — a shared proximity UUID plus a batch and beacon number — which any nearby device with compatible software can observe, as with all iBeacons. That identifier contains no personal data and says nothing about you or the object it is in. Beacons receive nothing, store nothing and have no connection to any network. Nothing else can be learned from one, and a beacon on its own cannot tell anyone where your object is.
Whemma only acts on beacons you paired yourself. A beacon you have not paired is invisible to your objects list.
8. Children
Whemma is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly process their data.
9. Changes to this statement
If the app changes in a way that affects this statement, we publish a new version here with a new effective date. Substantial changes — anything that would put data in someone else's hands — will be announced in the app before they take effect.
